Ammily was born from a deeply personal experience with my own grandparents, whose journey through retirement profoundly shaped my understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this stage of life.
My grandad, a proud and independent man, faced growing anxiety as he began to lose his independence, starting with something as simple as giving up his car. As his sense of purpose waned, my granny developed dementia, and by 2020, her condition had significantly deteriorated.
When my grandad had to stay in the hospital for a few weeks, my granny came to live in our family home, where she received 24/7 one-on-one care. We ensured she was eating well, staying active, and engaging with the world around her. The transformation was nothing short of remarkable—she went from barely remembering my grandad’s name and speaking very little to almost returning to her old self. This experience showed me the profound impact that dedicated, proactive support in the early stages can have on a person’s quality of life.

This along with my work in retirement communities revealed a significant gap in proactive support for older adults. Too often, the focus was reactive, addressing problems only after they became a crisis. I saw a need for a more holistic approach—one that promotes engagement, well-being, and purpose from the start.
